Early Techniques
Prior to 1962, a lab-fabricated device was the only option in space
maintenance. This procedure involved taking an impression and sending it
to the lab for fabrication. This method not only required two patient
visits to complete, but there was also no guarantee that the space would
remain static in-between visits.
Chairside fabricated
devices developed
The Unitek
Corporation offered the Gerber Space Maintainer system in the 1960's.
Developed by Dr. Warren Gerber, this system provided the first chairside
fabrication of space maintainers available. The rights to this system
was purchased by DENOVO Dental Inc. in the 1980's. The simple chairside
procedure takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete (experienced
users can cut this time to 10-15 minutes). All the components necessary
to fabricate the appliance chairside are included in the DENOVO Space
Maintainer kit except for band cement (glass ionomer or other luting
agent is used for this purpose).
Your Benefits
This
system will benefit your practice in many ways. The cost savings
compared to lab-fabricated devices is enormous. Based on 2005 prices,
your practice will save over $50.00 per appliance when compared to lab
fabricated devices.
Because
the DENOVO Space Maintainer appliance can be fabricated chairside, there
is no return visit for your patient. This eliminates the problems of
tooth drift between visits and no-shows by your patient.
The average insurance reimbursement for this procedure is over $200 - in
just three applications you have paid for your introductory kit.
The Introductory Band Kit comes with 52 Space Maintainer bands, 52
wires, and the Tube Crimping Plier. Also included are full-color
instructions and an instructional DVD which will get you started in
using the most-used Space Maintainer system in the world.
